The EDP Kite Surf Pro Cascais World Championship Tour Event marks the start of the 2012 KSP World Tour. This is the second KSP championship tour, and promises to deliver epic wave riding action at the four carefully selected tour stops!

The first leg of the KSP tour sees the world’s best kitesurfers come together at Europe’s kitesurfing mecca, Guincho Beach in Cascais, Portugal, to battle it out at the EDP Kite Surf Pro Cascais , which runs from the 1st to the 10th of June 2012.
As always, we will be updating this article with the latest competition results and kitesurfing news from Cascais on a daily basis, so refer back to this page or follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ to keep up to date with this prestigious kitesurfing event.

Attach the lines. Unroll your lines from your bar down wind and lay them on the ground. Next, grab your 2 centre lines and walk up to the kite, making sure there's no tangles or knots in them. The outside lines on the bar always attach to the back of the kite. Attach your lines to the kite using a larks head knot remembering that the closer the knot to the kite the more power the kite will have in the air. Note that beginners should attach their lines to the knots in the middle of the rope.

3Attach the harness. Now you are ready to attach your harness. Wrap this around your back and close the two flaps across your stomach. Next, secure the buckle and pull the fastening tight to make sure there is no movement. Pull the bottom straps as tight as you can to stop the middle bar rising. Pick up your bar and make sure the loop is facing you with the strap at the bottom. Hook the loop over the bar on your harness and thread the strap through the bar below the loop. Finally, fasten your leash on the harness to the leash point on the bar to act as your safety system should you come off your board.

4Launch. Walk back downwind to the launch point. Your knowledgeable friend should now turn the kite over and stand with the kite vertical whilst holding the inflated edge. When you are ready to go, give your friend the thumbs up and they should let go of the kite and then it should fly straight up to the top of the wind window.When kitesurfers think of Mauritius as a kitesurfing destination, their attention is

usually focused on Le Morne, which has gained worldwide recognition as a hot wave riding

spot thanks largely to the KSP World Pro Kite Surfing Tour. However, what few kiters

realise is that there are also great spots (mainly for lagoon riding) along the East coast

of Mauritius as well.

Since the winds come from the East coast of Mauritius, there are no accelerating factors on

this side of the Island. This results in less “kiteable” days throughout the year along the

East coast when compared to Le Morne or the North. However, during winter (from June to

November,) the East coast definitely deserves your attention… for its beauty, colours, flat

water conditions, and especially for its huge lagoons often with no one in the ocean, other

than a few fishermen. No crowds, no buzz. Epic!

The main spots along the East coast of Mauritius are…

Pointe D’Esny

A beautiful setting with relatively flat water and on shore wind. Riding along the beach is

fun, and most kitesurfers spend days along the bright-white beach, much to the dismay of

the holiday makers and swimmers… ;-)

Not recommended without properly organised security, but worth mentioning, it is possible

to ride 20 kilometres downwind to Trou d’Eau Douce and Ile aux Cerfs, all within the

lagoon.
