> View ProductsAttach the lines. Unroll your lines from your bar down wind and lay them on the ground. Next, grab your 2 centre lines and walk up to the kite, making sure there's no tangles or knots in them. The outside lines on the bar always attach to the back of the kite. Attach your lines to the kite using a larks head knot remembering that the closer the knot to the kite the more power the kite will have in the air. Note that beginners should attach their lines to the knots in the middle of the rope.

3Attach the harness. Now you are ready to attach your harness. Wrap this around your back and close the two flaps across your stomach. Next, secure the buckle and pull the fastening tight to make sure there is no movement. Pull the bottom straps as tight as you can to stop the middle bar rising. Pick up your bar and make sure the loop is facing you with the strap at the bottom. Hook the loop over the bar on your harness and thread the strap through the bar below the loop. Finally, fasten your leash on the harness to the leash point on the bar to act as your safety system should you come off your board.

4Launch. Walk back downwind to the launch point. Your knowledgeable friend should now turn the kite over and stand with the kite vertical whilst holding the inflated edge. When you are ready to go, give your friend the thumbs up and they should let go of the kite and then it should fly straight up to the top of the wind window.Trou d’Eau Douce is known for its Ile-aux-Cerfs resort, which makes a great kitesurfing spot when conditions are perfect (wind direction S.S.E).
However the whole beach-front of Trou d’Eau Douce is ‘kiteable’ throughout winter (June to November). The lagoon is extra wide, most of it shallow and flat (riders must be careful at low tides). Launching is fine almost anywhere along the beach, especially nearer to the reefs (the East side), where there is plenty of space.
Trou d’Eau Douce also has a gem… bearing the great name of ‘Joyride’. It’s too far from the beach to be accessible from there though. Kitesurfers need to use the shuttle boats to Ile-aux-Cerfs, then walk to its east-facing beach or to its neighbour ‘Ilot Mangenie’ and launch from there. This still leaves a long upwind ride to reach Joyride, comprising of several square kilometres of shallow and very flat water along the barrier reef. It is of course ideal for jumps and speed rides, often with strong, stable and potent winds in winter.

Boardseeker catches up with Keith Teboul to find out more about each of the finalists and the boards they use. Just what makes each of these boards work, for each rider?

SC: Congratulations on such a great team result at the AWT, you must be stoked to have all four riders in the final!
KT: Yeah, I’m super happy with the team performance, it was a great result.
SC: Who was on production and who was on custom boards for the competition?
KT: That’s a good question. Bernd was riding his production board during his heats. Camille was on a small production board too (the Sphere), when conditions were right, though Camille’s main board was a custom.
